Friendz, I would like to share with you all what I experienced today. Well, all those who are on Twitter must have definitely received a DM (Direct Message). A DM is a Twitter feature which allows Twitter users who are following each other to send a private message, which can only be read by the person you send it to.

Off late some spam DMs have been around Twitter. Even I have received some but as is my habbit, I generally don’t click on links in DMs unless it is from a known user. I used to just read the text of the messages & delete them, if the message looked fishy.

But today I received a DM which said,

I bet you can’t watch this for more than 10 seconds http://comedycraze.com ahaha!

And just out of curiosity I clicked on the above link, which directed me to Twitter aouth to allow access, which also I did, though I am still surprised how I did it because generally I don’t… may be since my mind was preoccupied with some other work… and after that it redirected me to the above site (comedycraze.com) and was asked to take a survey before I could watch the video so I just closed the window & did not continue. And after sometime when I check Twitter, there was one friend asking me whether I was sending out DM spam. Another Friend had RT’ed the above tweet via my handle (RT @ladynamic).

Then to my horror, I realised that the DM was a spam, which if you click on the link and allow access, it will automatically be tweeted from your handle & DM’ed to your followers.

After that the first thing I did was to go and delete the above tweet from my page and also revoked access of ComedyCraze under Settings –> Connections

I also put a tweet on my Twitter page informing all my followers that if they have received any DM/tweet from my handle containing comedycraze.com , it has not been sent/tweeted by me. It was a spam!!

Phew…!! feeling much better now It was my first experience hence was totally horrified.

Friends, if you receive the above message in DM or any other such fishy/weird message, please do not click on the link or allow access because the next thing you would know is that the message is being sent as DM to your followers and tweeted from your handle without you actually doing anything.

And if like me , you have also made the mistake then immediately go to Settings –> Connections and revoke access to the concerned site.
